Feeding The Ducks

Both Brandt and Campbell love the ducks and turtles at North Park Mall. Since we don't live as close to North Park as we used to, we don't see them as often as we would like. So, today Campbell and I went to feed the ducks in a neighboring subdivision. I wasn't sure how she was going to respond, since these ducks are accustomed to people and being fed. She was hesitant at first, but then got brave. These ducks are really tame and will get really close to you, if you let them. The braver she got, the closer she got. She even scolded one (the fat white one) for taking food she was trying to throw to another.

This duck was her favorite. It had these crazy feathers on top of its head that she called crazy hair.

This may be one of our new favorite outings!

Book Fair

My little kindergartner is growing up. This morning was Hole 'Lotta Fun With Mom at the Book Fair. We went to school at 7:00 am for donuts (and coffee) and to pick out our Book Fair books. B already knew what he wanted. His first choice was a book called "Bad Kitty Takes A Bath" and it is a chapter book. When I first looked at it, I thought no way. We sat down and sure enough, he read it to me. It will take some time, but he can read it. I am so proud of him!! My little kindergartner - reading chapter books! I hope he will develop a love of reading that will last forever. I know that I did not love reading in first grade (when we started learning).

Now Campbell and I are off to Smashing Times for Play Group. Three year olds and mosaics - I'll post the pictures and results soon!

Text Messages

I have to admit - I am not a big texter. I don't have a blackberry or even a phone with a keyboard and I just don't have the patience to type out messages with my number pad. It is so much easier to just make a phone call. I would love to have an iphone because they are just cool, but I have absolutely no need for one and I have a million other things that we could spend that money on. I do have a perfectly good phone that works just fine and serves its purpose. If I need to send or answer a text, I just have to take a little time.

All this leads me to our five and half year old kindergartner who is asking for a phone, preferably an iphone. Note above, I do NOT have an iphone. He has also discovered texting. In the last 24 hours, while he has been having a sleepover with his Oma, I have gotten 6 text messages from him. This is probably more texts than I have gotten this whole year! I know, it makes me the old, uncool mom. I knew this was coming, I just didn't think it would happen when he was in Kindergarten! And no he is not getting a phone - iphone or otherwise - quite yet. For now he will have to settle for using my MILs to send his texts. I can't wait for Campbell to figure this all out. Text messages from a three year old might send me over the edge!

The 100th Day

Today marks Brandt's 100th day of Kindergarten. Of course there will be a celebration, lessons centered around 100 and all sorts of others things to mark the occasion. He had a project to collect one hundred of something and find a way to display it. We chose to collect one hundred pennies and spell out his name on a poster board with them. Very creative, right? It only took me three kinds of glue to find out that only hot glue will hold pennies on a poster board. Guess who got the glue all the pennies down?
In the end the pennies are on and he added the writing and picture. Here is the finished project:

Did you see his hands? Are we raising Edward Scissorhands? This is Kindergarten creativity at its best! Great job B!! Have fun celebrating 100 days. You are doing awesome in Kindergarten.

Seeing Is Believing

Yes this is my I hate bows, ponytails, do not even brush my hair daughter. And she asked for them - okay I might have bribed her a little. She is currently obsessed with hair products (and make up and nail polish and shoes and the color pink), and I told her she could use whatever products she wanted, but we had to do her hair first. It didn't last all day, but it make it through a trip to the mall and most of the afternoon. We are on day three now and she has agreed to doing her hair every day.

All Checks

Brandt got his report card for the 2nd nine weeks and once again got all checks! Checks are the very best you can get in Kindergarten, so he did great. We are very proud of how well he has done this year. He is reading so well, counting by fives and tens, learning to add, spelling all of his colors and so many other things.
Yes, this is a major reason we chose to move the Frisco - the schools and teachers are fantastic!

All Many Pretties

Campbell finds many ways to busy herself during the day. Yesterday while I sorted through yet another bin of baby stuff, she was playing upstairs. It was quiet for a bit too long and when I asked what she was doing, her reply was "Getting all many pretties." This could mean lots of things, like playing with make up, so I asked her to come downstairs. This is what I was greeted with...

She noticed I was trying not to laugh and said "Everyone need jewelries and I have all many pretties. Let's go to Wal-Mart." (Pronounced Wol Mote)
All many is her definition of more than one. Perhaps I need to work on a lesson in moderation?
