Campbell Goes Back to School

Today was Campbell's first day of PreK.  She has been so excited to start school and has been asking every day since Brandt started "How many more days?"  Last week I went to meet her teacher and find out who was going to be in her class.  There are two boys from her three year old class and a girl from her dance class.  I knew that she was going to be so excited.  Saturday she told me that she did not want to go to school and I started to dread today.  We got up, got Brandt off to school and went back home to get ready.  She was excited to get dressed and ready and even asked me to paint her toes for her red sandals.  She packed her bunny into her sparkly backpack and double checked what I had packed into her lunchbox.  She posed for pictures and bounced out the door and into the car and I thought we were going to be fine.
Then we got to school.  She wouldn't unbuckle her car seat, she wouldn't get out of the car.  We got inside and she sat down on the gym floor and started to cry which quickly turned into screaming.  She had friends and teachers coming to talk to her and she would not budge.  Blake was happily running all over the gym.  I finally took her lunch into the classroom, carried her in and left her.  Patty (the director) never called me during the day, so I new she was fine.
When I went to pick her up she was smiling and laughing.  Ms. Erin said she was fine two minutes after I left (I knew she would be).  She will tell you she had a great day.  She even has homework that she is super excited to do tomorrow and take back on Thursday.

Brandt's First Day

Finally - here are the pictures of Brandt's first day of school.  He was a little nervous about the new school, mostly about finding his way around, new teachers and unfamilar territory.  It lasted for a couple of days and now he is doing great.  He has been to all of his specials - they rotate music, PE, art and computers and he has been to the library.  He is adjusting to eating lunch at 12:30 and Mrs. Liesveld lets them have a morning snack and also allows them to keep a water bottle at thier desk.  With the heat and ozone alerts, they have missed a few recesses, but we are still walking to and from school.  I am just not ready to battle the carpool line yet!

Meet the Teacher

Friday night we went to school to meet Brandt's new teacher and tour our new school for the first time.  He was so excited.  All day he kept asking me how many more hours until it's time to go?  Finally it was 6:00 and time to go.  The school is so close that we chose to walk.
The school is great and smells so new.  Brandt was super excited to see everything.  We saw the cafeteria, gym, music room, library and his new classroom.

He has four friends in his class, three from kindergarten and one from first grade, so he is excited about that.  We found the classes that most of his friends are in, so he knows where everyone is.  Except for waking up early tomorrow, he is very excited.  He even wants to wear his new Purefoy tshirt.  So much for the nice first day of school outfit that Mommy bought!

Blake Loves Some Ronis

Blake doesn't eat anything except fruit, yogurt and cheese (and anything sweet).  The kids were having macaroni and cheese for dinner and I gave some to Blake to see if he would eat that too.
I think he likes it!

Not To Be Left Alone

Once again Blake proves he can not be left alone, even for a minute...

Sunday after we read the paper, I put it on the table and went in the bedroom.  Not two minutes later, Blake had the paper all over the floor.

How To Get Married

Campbell loves to talk about weddings.  After all, doesn't every princess marry the prince and live happily ever after?  She asks about the dress, the dinner, the cake, the dance  (I guess it doesn't help that I love to watch Say Yes To The Dress and Amazing Wedding Cakes).  At least once a month I have to unzip my wedding dress bag and show her my dress.  One day I may actually take it out and let her put it on.  She even has a "marry dress" on her Christmas list  (yes, we are making them already).
Not surprisingly, we were talking about weddings today in the car.  Brandt announced that when he got married, he would go to a restaurant, find a lady who was sitting alone, ask her if she was married and if she said no, then he would get out a ring box with a ring and say "Would you marry me?"  While I was debating whether or not to explain stalking to him and when it is appropriate to approach to strangers sitting alone, I was also trying to figure out where to steer this conversation.  Did I really want to bring up the creepy lurker who always hangs out by the bar?
I explained to him that he would probably want to marry someone that was his girlfriend and someone that he had known for a while.  The look on his face told me that he thought I was nuts.  I tried to explain that one day he really would want to have a girlfriend and that he would like girls.  He still looked at me like I was from Mars.
I can't wait to remind him of this story in a few years!

Our Super Big Day

Today was a big day for both Brandt and Campbell.  Yesterday she and her BFF Brooklyn decided that they were having a sleepover tonight.  They made all the plans, worked out the details and came downstairs to tell me.  After talking about it, Jennifer and I decided that we would let them have a try.
Then this morning Campbell decided that she wanted to get her ears "piered" before school started.  Brooklyn got hers done on Saturday and I had asked Campbell before, but as soon as Brooklyn did it, she was ready.  We had it done at Sweet and Sassy and she was really brave and only cried for a minute after.  She stopped as soon as I put her glitter hearts and stars on!

After we got home, it was time for Brooklyn to come over for the sleepover.  The girls were so excited!  First they watched a movie, then we ate dinner and then they had ice cream and cookies for dessert!

Here they are all tucked in are ready for bed.  They decided to "camp out" on the floor of Campbell's bedroom.

In the middle of all of this, Brandt lost another tooth!  This is number 5 for him and it is on his bottom left.  It has been loose for a while and he pulled it out all by himself!  Another visit from the Tooth Fairy tonight!

The Countdown Is On

In six days Brandt will start second grade at a brand new school.  He is pretty excited since I finally showed him some of the pictures of the interior of the school.  Because if Frisco's rapid growth, this is one of six new schools that FISD will open this fall.  We were rezoned from our old school and our neighborhood will go to the new school.  The only downside is that half of our friends live in the other neighborhood and will stay at our old school.
To get ready for school we have gotten a haircut, bought new tennis shoes, gotten our school supplies, picked out a new backpack and lunchbox and even bought some new underwear.  I also decided that since he is 7 now it is time that he started to take his own baths.  I have always bathed the kids together, all at once.  Now Brandt is going to take a shower on his own.  We had a test run tonight and he did a great job.  Bathing Campbell and Blake was much easier for mommy too!
Brandt came downstairs earlier today and told me that he was going through some changes and we needed to talk.  Not really something that I was sure I wanted to hear from my 7 year old!  Turns out, he just wanted to know if he could start sleeping in the top bunk (the up bed).  Now if I could get them all to actually sleep in their beds, all night, we would be in business!

When I Grow Up

When I grow up I am not sure what I want to be.  Brandt is going to be an architect and Campbell is going to be a cheerleader or a princess, depending on the day.  Usually her answer is a cheerleader.  Blake, my guess is he is going to be a handful.
Since Campbell aspires to be a cheerleader, my friend Jennifer and I enrolled she and her BFF, Brooklyn in cheer camp last week.  It was sponsored by her dance studio and we weren't sure what to expect, but the girls had a great time.  We missed Tuesday because the kids had a lice outbreak (totally horrible!!) and we spent the entire day shampooing and combing them out (we are lice free now and staying out of movie theatres for a little while!)  She gets a little lost on the second routine, since they learned it on Tuesday.  Brandt ran the video camera since I had the still camera and Blake grabs the strap a couple of times, so it is a little shaky, but still totally cute.

Now she wants to go to cheer every week.  She would do ten activities if we would let her!

Too Much Fun

Blake hates to sleep.  He will fight taking a nap with everything he has.  Some days he wins and doesn't have a nap.  This was one of those days.

He was supposed to be having a snack while I made dinner.  He went to bed instead.

Cupcake Wars

I love the food Network and all the baking shows.  Cupcake Wars is one of my favorites.  Not because I am a fabulous cook or pastry chef, but I love cupcake shops and I love, love Sprinkles so I like to watch Candace judge.  Sometimes Will is forced to watch it with me and if you follow him on Facebook you have probably seen his posts that he is being "forced to watch at gunpoint" and that it is "the seventh sign of the apocalypse".  I think he secretly likes it!
Last week inspired by too many Cupcake Wars and 105 degrees outside, the kids and I had our own cupcake war.  Equipped with my Williams Sonoma Kids cookbook, we made cupcakes, completely from scratch and frosted them and decorated them.  We even made the frosting from scratch.

Cupcake Wars ain't got nothing on us!  They even tasted good!
